My name is Maria Montgomery and I am the proud principal at Language Academy. Hopefully, you received the following New Principal Announcement. It is an honor to become a part of such a thriving community. I just finished my first week on campus at Language Academy and appreciate the warm welcome.
Growing up in a military family, I lived in different parts of the country and my family eventually landed in San Diego and this is where I'll stay! My husband and I have 3 children. All three live here in San Diego and my youngest will be a senior in high school this year. We love telling stories, sharing traditions, making meals and playing games together. My family also enjoys hosting students from around the world including countries France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Brazil, Thailand, China, Japan, and many more!
I began my career as a language teacher, first teaching Spanish in grades 4-8 and then becoming a biliteracy teacher in elementary. I have also had the privilege of being a site leader at elementary and middle schools in our district.
No matter where I am, I love having the opportunity to sit on the floor to read with our youngest students or have critical conversations with our older students.
I believe in the transformative power of our language immersion program that celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity, promotes academic achievement, and fosters a lifelong love of learning. As your principal, I am inspired by the mission of the Language Academy and am excited to begin collaborating with staff, students, families, and community partners. I am excited to launch the year with you and look forward to meeting you in person. Please reach out, introduce yourself, and feel free to share with me your experiences and dreams for our school!
